Tundra Esports has cemented its legacy in BLAST history with another Slam victory, defeating Team Yandex in the BLAST Slam V: Chengdu grand finals to secure an extraordinary fourth consecutive title. With this victory, they have also become the most storied team to compete at a BLAST event, appearing in five finals, and winning four of them.
Tundra secured the top two seed in the group stage with an impressive performance and punched their tickets directly to the semi finals alongside Team Falcons. They decimated MOUZ in the second semi final with a clear 2:0 score, and advanced to grand finals.
On the other hand, Team Yandex had a longer road to the grand final, facing the resurgent OG Esports in the quarter finals, followed by the formidable Team Falcons in the semi finals. Their series against OG was a thriller, going all the way down to the wire, but in the end Yandex prevailed.
However, Yandex’s main threat was lingering just ahead in the semi finals – Team Falcons. The reigning TI champions and Slam IV runners up were eagerly awaiting Yandex in a fairly lopsided match up, heavily favouring the Falcons. But everyone was in for a surprise as Team Yandex handed Team Falcons a shock defeat with a neat 2:0 score.
Having cemented their place in the grand finals, Team Yandex were put up in the ultimate litmus test against Tundra Esports. With the latter eyeing for their fourth BLAST Slam title, Yandex had to fight against all the odds.
But alas, all good things must come to an end, including Yandex’s surprise run at BLAST Slam V: Chengdu. The opening game was a nail-biter that saw both teams battling neck-and-neck, with thrones exposed on both ends, and Yandex getting wiped by Tundra as they attempted a final push on their opponent’s base. Tundra eventually took the lead by winning the first game.
While the first game was a nail-biter, the next two games were relatively easy for Tundra Esports. Team Yandex couldn’t withstand Tundra’s onslaught, as Tundra took the next two games and completed a clean sweep to win the tournament.
This also marks Tundra’s fourth consecutive BLAST Slam victory. Congratulations to them for winning BLAST Slam V: Chengdu.
