Arteezy has stepped down from the Shopify Rebellions Dota 2 roster after being with the North American esports organization for three years since their foray into the game.
Arteezy's tenure with Shopify Rebellion has been a tale of two worlds: consistent dominance in North America met with crushing defeats at major international tournaments.
However, the baton of being the top NA team was finally passed to Nouns as Shopify crumbled to qualify for two of the biggest esports events in Dota 2 history – Riyadh Masters 2024 and The International 2024 (TI13).
In a heartfelt note on Twitter, Arteezy shares the reasoning behind his exit.
He discusses his enthusiasm for creating and developing a new roster after The International 2023 (TI12). However, Arteezy also highlights the challenges of leading a new team and establishing its culture, which he was inadequately prepared for.
He said, “My efforts progressively diminished, and I contributed to the team’s demise and eventual demise.”
In the short term, competing without some of his closest friends and former teammates has made Arteezy consider taking a break from competitive Dota. But there’s also a silver lining to this situation – there’ll be more Arteezy Twitch streams for the Dota 2 fans.
Until his next move is clear, Arteezy will remain actively engaged with the Dota community and Shopify. A return to competitive Dota, possibly through a European team, is on the table as he seeks to keep growing as a player.
He thanks the organization for lending its unwavering support throughout the years and acknowledges its passion for fostering a championship culture.
The question around the future of the Shopify Rebellions’ Dota 2 roster remains uncertain with Arteezy’s departure. It remains to be seen how things unfold from here on.
Arteezy’s potential departure is the second high-profile exit in the last few months after its charismatic offlaner Saberlight left the team just before the TI13 regional qualifiers.
