With BLAST Open Lisbon 2025 approaching, the field is stacked with scary contenders and upset threats. We asked BLAST analyst Voo to highlight three favourites and three underdogs who could shake things up.
According to Voo, Vitality, Spirit, and FaZe lead the pack. Vitality’s roster changes fixed their role clashes, making them deadly.
Spirit’s trio of donk, sh1ro, and zont1x is outright terrifying. FaZe has the talent to be top three, but they need to prove it, Voo claims.
On the underdog side, Falcons, Liquid, and FURIA are the ones to watch.
Falcons mirror 2024 G2 but with less firepower, Voo says. Liquid’s fragging is elite, but their consistency isn’t. FURIA won’t win the event, Voo states, but they might ruin someone else's run.
We sat down with Voo to get his full breakdown:
"Vitality fell to #4 in the top teams of 2024, but the addition of ropz, arguably a side-grade fragging power wise based on 2024 output, managed to solve role and personality clashses that instantly set Vitality as the favourite for every event they've entered. And the scary part? They look like they could still get better"
"To absolutely nobody's surprise spirit started the season with the same results they ended the previous season with. donk alone could carry a team to top five in the world, but donk, sh1ro, zont1x make spirit 1B to Vitality's 1A"
"Based on recent form, Faze aren't the third best team at this event, they're actually probably 5th or 6th... or 7th or 8th.
On Paper Faze absolutely have the firepower to be in the top three, but they've struggled to put it together in the server.
With nearly a month since their last match and three months since their player change this is the event where they need to show something impressive or there can be some serious concern about their long term potential."
"If you compare player by player this roster is basically just a weaker version of 2024 G2, which clearly puts them as the best underdog in terms of potential."
"Since adding NertZ, Liquid have been a force to be reckoned with at times, but they still struggle with consistency, and Twistzz has yet to prove himself as a world class IGL.
When it comes to fragging not many teams can outclass Liquid on a good day, but just about every team at the event can outclass Liquid on a bad day."
I'm not saying FURIA has a chance to win the event, or that they have a chance to be impressive.
But they do have the chance to upset a team like NAVI, G2, or Eternal Fire, in the lower bracket and knock them out of the event before missing playoffs themselves.
BLAST Open Lisbon 2025 kicks off on March 27, featuring 16 top teams battling for a $300,000 prize pool. With a stacked lineup the stage is set for some intense Counter-Strike matches.
The action starts with the group stage, leading into the playoffs in front of a live Lisbon crowd.
