torzsi ended 2023 in fine form, and as the new year rolls in, he's hoping 2024 will be an even bigger and better year for himself and MOUZ.
At BLAST Premier World Final 2023, we sat down with torzsi to discuss his upturn in form following siuhy's arrival, the loss of frozen, and his goals for 2024.
It's been an up-and-down year for MOUZ this year, how are you looking back on it?
The first half was pretty tough I would say, but in the second half I think we proved a lot of people wrong and showed what we're capable of. I'm pretty happy about how it went, and I'm also happy to be in a top three team, it's pretty incredible. I know I learned a lot, and we've grown a lot together as a team.
Do you think this has been the year you've learned the most as a player?
I think so, yes. I think in the first half of the year where we had a lot of losses and went out of tournaments fast we always had a lot of talks about what was going on and what we needed to change, and in those talks I learned a lot. Also, in the second half of the year with siuhy, it's been really nice to play with him again. We were on different teams for a long time and I think we both learned a lot from being together again.
How important has siuhy's return been to how well you've been playing individually?
He contributes a lot to it. I think he knows how to use me and how to set me up in rounds, and I'm very happy to play with him and consider him a very good friend of mine, we have a really good connection.
He understands how I see the game and we're just trying to figure out a system where both of us can show up and we can play best as a team as well.
What was it like to win a tier one event at Pro League? Was it the highlight of your year?
It was our first tier one trophy, and we were really happy when we won it. It was an amazing feeling and it was incredible as well because we had a really tough run, we played FaZe, G2, NAVI, so we played a lot of good teams and it was a really tough bracket. It was also the last CS:GO tournament so it was amazing, and to get the MVP was a bonus and I remember that two or three weeks is probably one of the best memories I have. We always had fun, the communication in the team was really good, and we played amazing.
Do you think there's something poetic about being such a young team in terms of average age and being the ones to win the last CS:GO event?
Yeah, I think it's funny actually. As I said, we had a really tough bracket and there were really good teams that could have beaten us, but we managed to close the games and we showed up at the tournament, so it showed us that despite the fact we're so young we have so much firepower and trust that we can win tournaments with it. Now we know what we're capable of and that's our strength, being young, bringing fire, trusting your teammates, and being friends.
The player break is coming up and obviously you'll have a lot of time to work with whoever comes in to replace frozen, but are you worried that you might not be able to replicate the same level of firepower?
No, I'm not scared of that. I think we will have a decent amount of time to prepare for the Major and I don't know yet who will be our fifth, but I'm pretty sure that we will try to replace frozen as best as we can. Of course, frozen is a great player and a great teammate, but I don't think he defined MOUZ. The four of us are good players and we can do great without him. I'm not scared because I know what we have here and I know that we are working really hard. If we get the right fifth and continue to work hard and smart, we will get back to our best.
What are your individual goals for next year?
My individual goal for next year is to try and get a place in the top twenty, it would be really nice and is one of my dreams. Also, with the team I would really like to win more trophies because it was one of the best memories of mine and just lifting the trophy is amazing. Obviously it would be nice to do that in front of more people, in front of a crowd, so maybe winning one of the bigger LANs would be my goal.
You said one of your dreams is to be in the top twenty, where do you think you're at the with that?
I think, at the moment, maybe I'm not in my best form, but I'm not in bad form either. There's a lot of room to improve and I think if I improve at the level I did this year, I hope I will be in the top twenty next year. I will make sure that I will work enough and do everything to make it there.
