To get started in Witchspire you first create and name your world, and then you need to create your character. Beyond the aesthetic customization, you have a choice between one of six Covens, the game’s classes.
Does it matter, though? Here is everything you need to know.
What are Covens, exactly? As you create your character, you can choose one of six Covens:

I spent way too much time trying to make my decision, so let me get this out of the way quickly: it does not matter. At this point in Witchspire’s Early Access, your choice of Coven or Class is also purely aesthetic.
The only impact this has in your playthrough is it changes your starting weapon, which you will replace quite quickly. The left three choices (Cloudpiercers, Startsmiths, Foretellers) all start with a Spellblade. The rest wield Wands.
Beyond this very minor impact, choose whichever you prefer from a roleplay and aesthetic point of view. You will eventually replace all your gear, too, so even that will be temporary.
Covens will most likely matter eventually in Witchspire, but that does not seem to be a priority. There is no mention of Covens or Classes in the game’s first Roadmap, so we will have to wait and see if they’ll have any impact beyond roleplay and lore.
For now, though, just pick whichever you like the look of the most.

As you progress through Witchspire’s tutorial, you will eventually bump into the second choice you make: your first familiar. You can choose one of four:
This choice does have a bit more impact in your early game than the previous ones, but not too a huge extent. In my experience, the hardest element to find in a Familiar during the early game is Ethereal, which can make some puzzles hard to complete.
With that being said, you can get Ethereal weapons pretty quicky. I have two advices for this choice, though: choose a familiar that does not share an element with your weapon, and if you’re playing co-op, try not to overlap with your friends either.
Again, though, do not fret with these early choices and don’t bother min-maxing. You will replace everything you choose and find here extremely quickly. Just go with what you find coolest.
