Norwegian esports powerhouse Heroic clinched their maiden Dota 2 championship after defeating Team Falcons in a thrilling final at PGL Wallachia Season 2.
This victory leaves a sweet taste of success for the organisation in the competitive Dota 2 scene, especially with its roster based in the South American region.
HEROIC’s journey has been sublime throughout the tournament, finishing first in the group stage along with Team Falcons. They faced Infinity in the first series of the playoffs and convincingly won 2:0. They faced Tundra Esports in the second round of the upper bracket and won with a 2:1 score.
Despite reaching the upper bracket final, Heroic fell short against Team Falcons in a hard-fought best-of-three series. They later faced off against Tundra in the lower bracket, but Tundra could not find their rhythm and were eliminated from the tournament.
HEROIC faced Team Falcons in the grand final for a rematch. The first match of the best-of-five series was an absolute thriller, with the game lasting for a whopping 73 minutes. Both sides kept exchanging skirmishes until a point where the game went stale.
As both teams measured their risks, Team Falcons capitalised on an error from HEROIC’s side. The game went to their favour as they took the lead.
However, HEROIC mounted an excellent comeback in the next three games to win the series and the tournament. The second and third games went beyond 50 minutes, but HEROIC ultimately won. With a game advantage on its side, they finished the fourth game in 30 minutes, denying Team Falcons their first title in the new season.
