Remco "Crystallis" Arets has announced his departure from the Western European Dota 2 powerhouse Team Secret. The charismatic Dutch player is now officially a free agent with Team Secret embarking on a rebuild in this roster shuffle.
This development comes on the heels of Team Secret’s failure to qualify for The International 2024 (TI13) and a string of poor performances throughout the year. Announcing his free agency on X (formerly Twitter), Crystallis opined, “I have come to announce that Team Secret is back because I am not. Good luck to them further. Free agent.”
Crystallis joined Team Secret in 2022 and has been a crucial part of Team Secret’s success over the years including a second-place finish at The International 2022. However, inconsistency often overshadowed their success, leading to more disappointing results than triumphs.
His brightest moment with Team Secret came during TI 2022. Against all odds, they secured a spot in the main event by winning the Last Chance Qualifiers and then defied expectations by achieving a runner-up finish.
Nonetheless, all good things must come to an end and after a journey spanning over two years, it’s time for both Crystallis and Team Secret to write a new chapter.
Crystallis’ departure will be closely watched by the fans and professionals alike. His services will sooner or later be availed by teams looking to fortify their roster. However, all eyes will be fixated on Team Secret’s upcoming roster rebuild.
Dota 2 fans have been disappointed seeing Team Secret, once a dominant powerhouse in esports, in misery and will be eagerly awaiting the rebuild. Only two players remain on Team Secret’s Dota 2 roster, Kordan and Puppey, with Kordan's position on the roster remaining uncertain.
There’s no official announcement from Team Secret but we can expect things to stir up in the upcoming post-TI roster shuffle.
