Staying true to our promise of hosting a fast-paced tournament, we are introducing a unique format bound to generate a lot of buzz and excitement. Here’s a quick look at the format for BLAST Slam:
Ten teams will be invited based on their recent performance and community interest. These teams will be divided into two groups of five teams each. The group stage will be played across two streams and conclude on day one.
But here comes the most tricky and exciting part of BLAST Slam – the Gauntlet Stage.
A team’s placement in the round-robin group stage will determine their position in the next phase – a cross-group single-elimination gauntlet stage with all matches being played in the BLAST Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark.
But there’s a catch!
The best-performing teams in the group stage will have a simpler path to the finals in the gauntlet stage while the least-performing teams will be required to traverse a more difficult path.
Here’s how the Gauntlet Stage works:
The top team in each group goes directly to the semi-final, the second-placed team goes to the quarter-final while the third-placed team starts in round two. Meanwhile, each group's fourth and fifth teams will compete in round one, thus kicking off the eliminations.
As mentioned earlier, the teams that finish lower will have to work their way up the ladder and the teams that do well will have an easier time moving forward until the final two teams are determined.
The winner will be crowned as the first-ever BLAST Slam champion and walk away with the lion’s share of the $1,000,000 prize pool.
