Yesterday, we bid farewell to the first two teams in the Perfect World Shanghai Major Elimination Stage, and we also saw The MongolZ and Vitality advance to the playoffs.
Today, three more teams exited the competition and three more booked their places in the next stage, with some banger games setting up some even more exciting games tomorrow.
Let’s recap the action.
G2 were one of the favourites to make their way to the playoffs in the 3-0 bracket, but a surprise loss to The MongolZ in their opening game meant that they would instead have to do so by coming back from the 0-1 bracket.
They did so with ease, and today they took down FaZe to secure that advancement with a clean 2-0 win.
13-4 on Ancient and 13-3 on Mirage, FaZe never got into the game as NiKo and m0NESY ensured that G2 would be able to fight for the Major trophy in what could potentially be their final tournament as a duo.
3DMAX have made France proud, but sadly, their Major run came to an end earlier than they would have liked with a defeat at the hands of MOUZ.
A close series despite it being a 2-0 win for the German organisation, both maps needed all 24 rounds as MOUZ won both Dust2 and Nuke 13-11.
A strong series for MOUZ’s stars, they’ll now face MIBR tomorrow to try to make it to the next stage.
NAVI were a surprise inclusion in the 1-2 bracket, but they did what was expected of them as they kept themselves alive with a comfortable win over GamerLegion.
We began with a 13-6 NAVI win on Nuke, iM rolled back to his BLAST.tv Paris Major form to top the server with 19 kills.
NAVI then eliminated on Mirage with a 13-9 win, iM had another strong game, but it was b1t who top-fragged as his 19 kills sent GamerLegion packing.
It wasn’t a clean win from Liquid, but they advanced to the playoffs thanks to two dominant map wins against MIBR.
They opened their account with a 13-2 win on Mirage, a map ultimate top fragged with 17 kills. However, they couldn’t wrap the series up on map two, MIBR took it 13-10.
Liquid bounced back strong, they won the series thanks to a 13-5 win on Anubis. Jks was the star, he topped the scoreboard on 17.
Despite losing to FURIA in their opening game, Spirit have secured playoffs at the first time of asking thanks to a 2-1 victory over HEROIC.
Donk showed once again why he is a superstar, he went 79-50 as he fought basically 1v9 for the first two maps.
Fortunately, sh1ro came online on Dust2, his 19-5 performance helped Spirit to a 13-7 map three victory.
The final game of the day saw FURIA take on their Brazilian rivals, paiN.
Another 2-1 result, FURIA had to fight back from being a map down as they lost Vertigo with a 13-11 scoreline.
yuurih kicked off that comeback, his 21-13 statline was enough to give his team a 13-9 win on Mirage. chelo then took over on Inferno, he had an incredible 26-10 game to give FURIA a 13-11 win.
FURIA will now face FaZe in tomorrow’s 2-2 games, with both teams set to give it all as they look to secure one of the final three playoff places.
