One of the biggest stories coming into the RMRs for the Perfect World Shanghai Major was the presence of ohnePixel's DRILLAS.
The streamer set up the team with the ambition to get stickers in the game, as seen by the team's logo just being an image of himself, but also to support some players in their dream of making a Major.
Playing in the RMR due to the nationalities of their original roster, their presence in that RMR hasn't been without controversy due to a subsequent roster changing causing the team to play with four European players.
Despite that controversy, many fans still wanted to see DRILLAS perform well due to being fans of ohnePixel and his obvious excitement about the team.
It started out well, DRILLAS opened up their time at the RMR with a 13-11 win on Ancient thanks to a combined 45 kills from Ukrainian's Woro2k and Kvem.
That win booked them a match against the best team in Asia, The MongolZ.
A terrifying prospect for most teams in the world nowadays, DRILLAS took the Mongolian team in their stride as they opened up the series with a 13-11 win on Mirage. Another starring performance from Woror2k, belief that DRILLAS would make the Major was about to kick in.
However, after that opening match against The MongolZ, DRILLAS would win just seven more for the remainder of the best of three as they fell 2-1 and were pushed down into the lower bracket.
In the lower bracket, DRILLAS would have to win two more games in order to make it to the Major, with the first one of those set to be played against the Aussie stars on FlyQuest.
Sadly, that would also be the last team they played at the RMR, FlyQuest took them down 2-1 after a thrilling final map.
The Australian side opened up the series with a 13-9 win on Anubis, but DRILLAS answered back with a dominant 13-2 win on Dust2.
That map win pushed the series to Ancient, a thrilling game that needed triple OT in order to find a winner as it ended 22-20 with INS, Liazz, and Vexite all picking up 30 kills or more to win the game for their team.
The loss ends DRILLAS hopes of making it to the Major, but we're sure that they'll be proud of their achievements regardless thanks to the unlikely nature of their situation.
