There’s been plenty of upsets so far at BLAST Rivals Fort Worth, and they kept coming as we got in front of the roaring Texan crowd.
FaZe, whose instability left them with little hope coming into the event, continued their run, whilst GamerLegion pulled off a monster comeback to seal their semi-final berth over Astralis.
FaZe beating FURIA could have been written off as a fluke, but now that they’ve also knocked off G2, it’s official:
The FaZe bullshit is back.
The series began very evenly, with G2 and FaZe both winning six rounds each in a tense opening half of Dust2. There remained little between the two teams in the second half, too, but jcobbb’s 13-6, 1.59-rated half was enough to clinch FaZe the win at 13-11.
The bullshit did seem to run out on Ancient, however, as G2 bounced back into the series in a big way - taking nine out of 12 rounds on their T side. FaZe did try to mount a comeback; they secured six T rounds of their own, but G2 held on, sending us to a third map at 13-9 after 22 kills from huNter-.
On Mirage, though, it soon became clear there was a little bullshit left in the tank. After a difficult series up to that point, frozen was on fire, and he ended the map on 31 kills to help FaZe to a 16-13 win.
Even with FaZe’s heroics thus far, it’s GamerLegion who has perhaps been the real surprise of the tournament.
After kicking off their event with a win over FURIA, they’ve now advanced to the semi-finals here in Fort Worth, knocking down Astralis in a series that featured a massive comeback on inferno.
First, though, the two teams faced off on Overpass, a map that should have been a safe bet for Astralis, considering GamerLegion have played it just once in the last three months.
However, no bet is ever safe, and after a dominant T side in which PR and REZ combined for 22 kills, GamerLegion secured the map 13-8.
Heading into their pick of Inferno, the Snax-led team would have been feeling pretty confident, but they soon found themselves running into a brick wall as Astralis put up a solid 9-3 CT half.
GamerLegion started the second half well by winning the pistol round, but all hope looked to be lost when Astralis won the following three rounds to make it 12-4. Snax was having none of it, though, and began a surge of mid-round aggression that saw him end the game at the top of the scoreboard with 28 kills and a 16-14 win for his team.
