It may be considered a last dance considering some of the rumours currently circulating, but Falcons have been crowned the winners of PGL Bucharest after defeating G2 in the grand final.
A dominant 3-0 victory in the final, Falcons were confident on all three maps played, offering G2 little opportunity to even get into a map let alone think about lifting the trophy.
Falcons will now take home the $200,000 given to the victors of the event, as well as an MVP award for degster.
Falcons began their tournament in Bucharest by going 0-2 down in the Swiss stage.
An expected result given the rumours that had come out regarding kyousuke and m0NESY potentially joining the team, many expected them to bow out 0-3 as they faced paiN in the 0-2 bracket.
Instead, Falcons would go on to win that game, and then found themselves in the 2-2 bracket soon after following a win against Rare Atom.
The 2-2 bracket would see Falcons play another Asian team, The MongolZ, in a game that rankings dictated they should lose. However, Falcons once again pulled it out of the bag, securing their playoffs berth after a 2-1 victory.
Pitted against GamerLegion in the quarter-finals, Falcons struggled in the opening match but bounced back on the second and third to see themselves through to the semis with another 2-1 scoreline.
Not to break their streak, their semi final against FaZe would again end 2-1, with Falcons holding their nerve after a dominant victory on map one and a close overtime loss on map two.
Unlike the previous games in the playoffs, the grand final was entirely one-sided. huNter- and malbsMd both struggled in the final, they picked up a combined 44 kills across 59 rounds as G2 slumped to the 3-0 defeat.
A tournament that will be considered a last dance for both rosters if rumours do come to fruition, it marks both the end of an era for G2, and the beginning of one for Falcons.
