Falcons haven’t been quite at their IEM Cologne levels since the Summer break, but they looked to be back to their best in their quarter-final clash against G2 here at BLAST Open Porto.
A comfortable 2-0 win for the reigning Major champions following two dominant opening halves, they will now go on to play Team Spirit in tomorrow’s semi-finals.
G2 might be one of the better Inferno teams in the world, but you wouldn’t believe it if this was the first map of theirs you’d watched.
Falcons raced to an 11-1 lead off the back of an impenetrable CT side, where NiKo and kyousuke combined for 33 kills and died just 11 times between them. NiKo had one of his best highlights of the year in the run, too, defending the A site with some crisp, clean headshots.
G2 did attempt to mount a comeback following a pistol round with on the second half, but with such a commanding lead and so much firepower, it was only a matter of time before Falcons got their two necessary rounds to close out the map.
Inferno came to an end at 13-6, with NiKo continuing his first half form into the second and ending the map 23-11 and with a monster 2.22 rating.
The second map was much the same, with Falcons opting to pick Dust2 and looking beyond the Ancient pick that hadn’t worked out for them on three occasions in the Group Stage.
Another dominant opening half ensued, with Falcons going into the break with a 9-3 lead after TeSeS and kyousuke starred and both ended the half with 11-7 statlines.
Once again, G2 attempted to mount a comeback; there was an ace from huNter- on the way to their more competitive nine rounds, but Falcons were just too strong on the day, closing it out in style at 13-9.
