After being benched prior to IEM Dallas and the BLAST.tv Austin Major, broky is back on the FaZe Clan roster with a point to prove.
IEM Cologne may not have gone the way they would have hoped, but the signs were positive, and now he and the rest of the team has a chance to show that FaZe is back during BLAST Bounty Season 2.
Ahead of the event, we sat down with the Latvian Laser to discuss his benching, nerves before his return, and FaZe's goals for the rest of the year.
You're back on FaZe now, how are you feeling?
It feels good to be back, I've had a good break from the game and hopefully I can show better form than in Cologne.
Let's talk about Cologne. It didn't go how you guys would've wanted it to, what are the takeways?
Going into Cologne, one of the main goals was to make the playoffs, that would be a good start for me, but we didn't do that. We lost to NAVI in the last game before the playoffs. We didn't have too much practice, like nine days before the event, so hopefully we'll do better next time.
karrigan has spoken a lot about bringing you back, but when you got the call, were you surprised?
I wouldn't say I was surprised, but yeah, maybe it was unexpected. I knew that the benching wasn't 100%, it was just to see how it would go without me, but now I'm back.

I wouldn't say it's a punishment, it was a good break from the game. I was a bit stressed, we didn't have the first season, so taking a break was needed for me even if I didn't realise it.
When you were benched then, what were your thoughts?
When I got benched, I got the call from the coach and was told I was benched for the Major, and given that it's the biggest event of the year, missing the Major was a bit rough.
The first few days were an emotional rollercoaster, you understand it's not the greatest moment of your career, but then after a few days I was like "Fuck this shit, I'll just work on my health and to be better for next season."
In terms of this season, what will be the key moving forward for you guys? There's still speculation about the future of the roster.
I would say that the main goal is just playing the game, and not focusing on the background noise. At least for myself, I tried to come back in Cologne and not read anything anyone was saying, just play my game. Now I'll try to continue that for this season at least, to see how it goes for my mental health and things like that.
But yeah, as a team, the goal is to do good at the Budapest Major.
In terms of your individual level, did you feel rusty after your break?
The break wasn't the longest, but it was still like two times that of the player break, so going into the event, there was excitement. I could feel it in my hands before the first game, it wasn't pressure, or stress, just excitement.
I don't feel like I was at my best level, I was inconsistent, so I can be much better.
Photo: Michal KonkolLooking ahead, you guys have struggled this year and this year feels so competitive, what's the goal? Is it to be back on top or does that feel unrealistic?
Everyone thinks they're the best team, maybe they don't show it, but if you don't think that then you might as well just quit. We haven't set some goals for the whole season, just for Cologne, but that was mainly just to have fun and give our best.
You have BLAST Bounty coming up, how are you feeling about it?
Bounty is always fun, it's always fun to have some tournaments from home and play online before qualification to the main event. Hopefully we can qualify for Malta and show some good CS there.
You play BetBoom in your first game, how do you feel about that?
It's a good opponent to have our first game. Not the best, but not the worst. Hopefully we can get a clean win.
Do you feel more or less confident in online matches?
I don't think I feel more or less confident, but it's more about not being in the LAN setting. You're not sitting next to your teammates, you have ping difference, so it's kinda like practice that's just a bit more serious.
The BLAST Premier Bounty S2 is BLAST's first studio event show as part of their multi-year deal with GamingMalta.
