The BLAST.tv Austin Major is finally here.
16 teams have entered the competition today with each team dreaming of advancing further into the competition and writing their names into Counter-Strike history.
As expected, the Major kicked off with some absolute bangers, so let's take a quick look at the action.
Complexity came into the Major as NA's greatest hope, but those hopes have been dashed slightly as they now find themselves in the 0-1 bracket.
Facing a strong OG team in their opening game, the majority of that OG barely needed to join the server as nicoodoz just dominated.
A 13-3 win for the Europeans, the Danish hybrid was terrifying, recording a 3.08 rating as his 33-6 KD on Ancient was enough to send OG flying through to the 1-0 bracket.
HEROIC vs Chinggis Warriors was a far closer game, but it was another game that was decided by an AWPer.
The Europeans fell to a surprising 6-2 deficit on their favoured T side, but some huge impact from LNZ, SunPayus, and yxngstxr helped HEROIC limit the Mongolians to a 7-5 lead at the half.
LNZ continued to have impact, but in the end it was the performance of SunPayus across the two halves that saw the Spaniard top the scoreboard with 18 frags as HEROIC took Anubis 13-7.
BetBoom are one of the most experienced teams in stage 1 and that experience prevailed as they picked up a 13-7 win on Train over Nemiga.
A close game in the early stages, Nemiga started the strongest, but former Spirit player s1ren put his foot on the gas to deliver 23 kills as BetBoom to control of the map off the back of a ten round winning streak.
The exact type of performances BetBoom will need to rely on if they're to go far in this Major, we spoke to Boombl4 about it before the game.
The closest game yet, B8 managed to just edge out a win against Imperial on Inferno.
Imperial looked really strong on their T half, opening the map with a commanding 8-4 lead. noway starred, he had a 1.81 rating from 13 kills on the T side.
B8's T side was just that little bit stronger, though, and a combined 25 kills from their most experienced players, npl and headtr1ck, saw B8 head into the 1-0 bracket with a 13-11 scoreline.
It's not all bad for the NA fans today, NRG made light work of TYLOO in their opening game at the BLAST.tv Austin Major.
Playing on Anubis, a typically T sided map, NRG's CT side was unbreakable as they picked up a 9-3 lead.
A solid performance from the entire NRG team, it was br0 who topped the scoreboard thanks to his 19 frags.
Chinese fans also had something to shout about as Lynn Vision took down Legacy in a convincing manner.
Playing on Dust2, Lynn Vision's T side looked very strong, they took a 7-5 lead into the second half.
EmiliaQAQ starred for them, his 1.57 rating and 19 kills see the Asian team go through to the 1-0 bracket.
The big story of the day was twin brothers susp and adamb being on opposite sides of the server for their opening games, and it's safe to say that one of them will be leaving very disappointed.
Perhaps NA's biggest hope for this Major, Wildcard didn't disappoint at all, they dominated Inferno with a 11-1 CT side to push themselves through to the 1-0 bracket off the back of a 13-1 win.
phzy and Sonic starred, they recorded 2.30 and 2.12 ratings respectively. As for susp and adamb, susp went 10-5 while adamb struggled and went 5-13.
Aussie team FlyQuest have big hopes for the Major, and they started it off with a bang as they took down Brazilian team, Fluxo.
A 13-7 win on Ancient, the map ended up being the battle of Vexite vs zevy as the two fraggers both massively carried their teams.
The victor, Vexite, ended the map 27-13, while zevy was unfortunate to lose thanks to his 26-15 scoreline.
