BLAST Bounty Season 2 has been full of upsets so far, and while those continued in the RO16, Spirit avoided one in emphatic fashion as they managed to take down 100 Thieves 13-0 on Dust2 after suffering an embarrassing defeat on Mirage.
Let’s take a look at that game, as well as the seven remaining games in a round of action with an outcome that made us feel like we were in 2019 again.
MOUZ, Astralis, Liquid, FaZe. All four of these teams were regular playoff contenders in the pre-COVID times, but playoff appearances have been rare for a few of these teams in the past few years.
They’ve all risen to the occasion here, though, and will now all be heading to our studio in the playoffs to battle it out with The MongolZ, paiN, 3DMAX, and the titans of Spirit.
Liquid did it the easy way, or at least they made it look that way, as they limited G2 to just 11 rounds in their 2-0 demolition. MOUZ also won in a 2-0 fashion, although FOKUS did pick up enough rounds in that series to actually win a map.
Astralis and FaZe dropped maps to HOTU and Dendele, although all of their map wins were very comfortable. Both teams dominated on Cache, with jabbi coming up big for Astralis and Twistzz popping off for FaZe.

On day two, paiN were the first team to book their spot in the playoffs, taking down Snappi’s NIP 2-0 after overtime on map two. They were then joined by 3DMAX, who were the unlikely victors against a FUT team that is still bedding in their new signing, xfl0ud.
The third team to make it was The MongolZ, with their new man tikuak popping off across two maps against Wildcard to see them through.
The main event, though, was Spirit vs 100 Thieves, with an unexpected amount of belief in 100 Thieves to pull off the upset, having already taken down reigning Major champions Falcons during the event.
It even looked like it might happen, too; 100 Thieves levelled the tie at 1-1 thanks to a 13-4 scoreline on Mirage. However, it’s never that easy to take down Spirit in a BO3, and when donk woke up on Dust2, the series swiftly ended 2-1 thanks to a 13-0 scoreline.
Ouch.
The draw for the playoffs will take place on Wednesday, so make sure you tune in to see who each team picks to face!
