Astralis had been clinging onto their Perfect World Shanghai Major hopes and dreams ever since the announcement that device wouldn't be with the team in China.
That grip got even weaker when they found themselves 0-2 after the first day, but they did give themselves a glimmer of hope when they battled back to make it to the 2-2 bracket.
However, all hope is now lost, they have been defeated by Ukrainian team Passion UA in their 2-2 game.
The defeat marks the fourth consecutive Major that Astralis will miss, with their last Major appearance coming at the PGL Major Antwerp 2022. It is also the second time they have failed to qualify fro a Major since the release of CS2.
On the flip side, Passion UA's qualification is a historic achievement of it's own. The first full-Ukrainian team to ever qualify for a Major, they did so in style, going 2-0 with wins over Virtus.pro and Spirit before holding their composure to ensure qualification with a 3-2 record.
The game itself was clean for the Ukrainians, a 2-0 victory with a 13-9 on Inferno and a 13-11 on Ancient.
jambo and fear starred for Passion UA across the two maps, IGL fear's 22 kills on Ancient saw him top the scoreboard for his team.
Pardon the pun, but their passion was clear when they won and secured their qualification.
A remarkable achievement, they will now enter the Major in the Opening Stage, where they will hope to continue their incredible Cinderella story.
