2024 has thus far been an up-and-down year for many of the top teams in CS.
Huge organisations such as Astralis, Falcons, and Liquid all missed out on the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, while others such as G2 and Cloud9 faced inconsistent results which led to huge roster rebuilds.
With the second season of the year about to get underway, we asked the BLAST Premier talent to predict which team will face similar struggles in the second half of the year.
This is always a difficult one to pin down. It’s tempting to say BIG, but I have to give this one to NIP because they've already announced that they're not really trying to win anything until 2025.
Also, they were struggling in the first half of the year, but also the half before that, and even the half that preceded that one... and come to think of it, all the halves in recent memory.
I have a feeling NAVI will find it hard to replicate the amount of success they've had in the first six months.
As I've said before, in my opinion, it’s unrealistic to even expect that from them. What they've done in the first six months of CS2 this year has been way above anyone's expectations, so to replicate that will be rough.
I don't think NAVI will struggle massively, but I do think they'll realise that changes will be needed if they want to maintain the position as an underdog to win tournaments.
I think G2 is going to struggle. I just don't see how this new lineup works unless they change up the play style of the team in order to activate malbsMd, which I really hope they do, but I'm pretty sure they won't.
Hopefully, I'm proven wrong here. I believe m0NESY is the best player in the world and I'd like to see him lifting trophies before the year ends.
G2 in terms of expectations vs results. The deck is stacked against them because they are the team that everyone is watching right now.
Liquid will have to dig painfully deep to put together a competitive roster once again. The failed experiment with cadiaN and skullz leaves a tremendous gap in terms of roles and gaming philosophy.
As I say these words it isn’t even clear who will be in charge of this project in the future. Thankfully they have the NAF and Twistzz duo which remains very attractive from a Counter-Strike standpoint but I am not sure how prestigious their recruitment can be.
