Over the years, esports and video games have continued to grow steadily, and so did the popularity of skins has also increased considerably.
One of the games that has been at the forefront of skins from the moment of its release is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
CS:GO skins, and soon CS2 skins, are one of the most important features of the game, as these can represent many things to all players.
However, we also know that these skins have different floats (quality) that make the appearance and price of the weapons vary considerably.
The CS2 float value refers to the wear value of a skin, which determines the overall appearance and, of course, the quality of the weapon skin in the game.
The float values in CS2 range from 0-1. Lower values represent "cleaner" or "higher quality" skins, while higher float values represent more wear on the weapon skin.
The float value of the skin is vital, above all, for all skin collectors, visual enthusiasts and traders. This will directly determine the rarity, attractiveness, and, ultimately, the price within the Steam marketplace.
Currently, in CS:GO and likely to remain the same for CS2, there are five different levels of skin wear. Each of these skin wear levels has its range of float values. These levels are:
Knowing the wear of your weapon skin in the game is extremely important to be a good skin seller because, according to this wear, you can set a much higher skin price.
For example, you can sell an AK-47 with a float value of 0.15 (Minimal Wear), which is more expensive than the same AK-47 skin with a float value of 0.35 (Field-Tested).
It is also important to identify if the float value in CS2 of the skins you have in your inventory is close to the limits, i.e., 0.00 or 0.999. This means that your weapons have a much higher rarity level and a much higher price.
In addition, it is also worth noting that not all skins have a float value ranging from 0-1, i.e., not all skins have all the wear and tear. For example, the AWP Asiimov can only be found in FT, WW, or BS.
Another example is the Doppler knife, which has a float value between 0-0.08; those ranging from 0-0.07 are FN and from 0.07-0.08 MW. This all depends on each skin; however, most of them have a float between 0-1.
If you want to identify the float value of your skins, there are different ways to do it. First of all, you can check it yourself by following these steps:
You can repeat the process with the game open: Go to the skins inventory, select the one you want to check the float value and click the Info button (i) to get the value.
You can also use external websites that will tell you the float value of the skins you want, such as CSGO Float.
These websites require you to log in with your Steam account to access your inventory and check all the information you need. Once you have entered the necessary information, the website will display the skin's float value and wear level.
The float value plays an extremely important role in determining the overall appearance of any skin, especially when selling or trading it.
As mentioned, lower float values result in clean and vibrant skin with fewer scratches and blemishes. On the other hand, higher float values have much higher levels of wear and tear, making the skin look much more faded and worn.
It is essential to note that the float's value does not affect the weapon's performance in any way; it simply alters the aesthetic appearance of the skin.
While it is true that there are five different types of wear on Counter-Strike weapon skins, many in the community prefer to purchase or buy those with Minimal Wear (MW).
Regardless of the float value they have, this type of skin is the one that most closely resembles the Factory New ones, i.e., it has very little damage on its exterior, and the weapon looks practically new while still being economically priced.
Currently, there is no indication that the float system will undergo significant changes in CS2. The current system has proven very popular with players and collectors, as it offers a unique and attractive way to customize and display in-game weapons.
However, as with any aspect of the esports landscape, it is always possible that future updates or iterations of the game will introduce new features or modifications to the float system.
CS2's float system adds a layer of depth and excitement to the world of in-game skins.
Players can make informed decisions when trading, collecting, and displaying their prized weapon skins by understanding the importance of float values and the different levels of wear on skins.
We are all anticipating the imminent release of CS2, which has not yet been officially revealed by Valve. If you want to know the minimum requirements of your PC to play CS2, click here.
