Waiting for today's action at BLAST Premier Spring Final presented by Revolut? Need to catch up on yesterday's big story as TaZ returned to the server?
Then this is the article for you.
It was a somewhat expected loss for G2 given that they were playing without m0NESY, but as magixx told us after the game: "The result speaks for itself so yes it was definitely harder than we expected it to be against them, they played pretty well today."
The raised difficulty for Spirit was, surprisingly, due to the clutch performances of the Polish veteran TaZ, with nexa saying after the game with a smile, "The old dog still has it in him."
The big surprise in the series was the ease with which G2 claimed map one.
The result always felt comfortable and it started from round one as TaZ picked up two clean USP headshots.
Not to be overshadowed, NiKo then picked up an ace to take the game to 10-4.
Spirit looked shellshocked as G2 took Ancient 13-8, leaving everyone questioning as to whether they were in their own heads about their presumably weakened opponents.
As it happened, that wasn't the case and Spirit just needed the first map to truly get into the game.
The IEM Katowice champions quickly worked up an 8-4 lead on their CT side. However, once again, TaZ was the man who made them hurt on a pistol round as he clutched 1v1 to make it 8-5.
And HooXi was just as shocked as the rest of us.
Even magixx was, he told us "TaZ is fucking insane with pistols. He just won all the pistol rounds for them."
Sadly though, the TaZ pistol heroics weren't enough, and G2 fell to a 13-7 scoreline.
How can we have a Spirit game without mentioning donk?
The young gun picked up his first ace of Spring Final in the early rounds of map three.
A comfortable affair, Spirit took the game 13-4 without much of a fightback from the weakened G2, but G2 themselves weren't worried as they had a lot of fun across the series.
"Yeah, it was fun, the circumstances are what they are and we knew that without m0NESY it was going to be a tough game so we tried to keep our spirits high and have some fun playing." - nexa
