The Counter-Strike world looked on in anticipation as G2 tracked m0NESY's travel day from hell on their Twitter, and eventually, the young gun turned up just in time to face Vitality.
Unfortunately for them, his presence on the server wasn't enough for them to secure a victory and make it to the arena.
After the loss and G2's elimination from BLAST Premier Spring Final presented by Revolut, we caught up with m0NESY to discuss his travel and look back across the season.
It was a very long day for you, how are you feeling?
I'm feeling exhausted.
I feel like I lost all my energy by flying here and playing this game. I was trying to not think about how I would perform because I knew I'd have some struggles having to just come from the car and play without all of my settings. So I tried to just not think too much about that and put everything on trying to win the series, but it is what it is.
You said you're exhausted and you knew it would be hard, but does that mean you'll be able to put it to the back of your mind or will you be kicking yourself about the result?
I don't really care, to be honest. If we win as a team and I play badly it doesn't matter.
I just feel like we could've won this series, on Inferno we started well and we continued doing the same stuff but something wasn't working. I could've done more, but I don't regret anything, it was just a bad situation.
You said you were playing without all of your settings, what was wrong there?
My jump throw wasn't working, my settings were just off and I didn't have the right auto exec.
I had some settings where people were dying with delay when I shot them and I forgot to change it.
Jump throw was crazy though, I thought it was working for six rounds and it wasn't [laughs] so I just had to throw things normally.
You guys haven't been playing Mirage for a while but you did against Vitality, what can you tell us about the current G2 map pool?
They decided to pick Mirage as the decider, last time in Dallas they decided to pick Nuke instead. I don't know why people were scared to play Mirage against us in Dallas, we didn't have too much practice on the map.
They play better Mirage than us and have more experience, so I don't know why they didn't pick it then.
How come you've started floating it again and not banning it like you were previously?
When Overpass got removed we decided to stop playing Vertigo and play Mirage instead.
How are you looking back on the season?
The season was an amazing journey, even arriving here. We made almost every playoff, played in the arena of every arena even we attended apart from this one.
I'm happy for the team that we got a lot of experience this year and I'm happy for myself that I did too, it definitely will help us step forward in the next season.
We had a lot of ups and downs but we grew up as a team.
What are your plans for the player break?
I want to go on vacation with my parents. It's really important for us to get to do that and for me to spend a lot of time with my family. I haven't gotten to do that this year and I've sacrificed a lot of time to just play the game.
