The CSGO player Joel “joel” Holmlund, formerly of GODSENT, has been provisionally suspended by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC). The suspension stems from allegations of multiple breaches of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code, including illegal betting activities.
As a result of this suspension, joel's former team, Victory Zigzag, will be forced to compete in upcoming BLAST Premier Fall Showdown with their coach, Ivan 'Hardwell' Alekseev, serving as a stand-in.
joel's suspension duration and the impact on his future in esports remain uncertain, pending further updates from ESIC.
Victory Zigzag had initially qualified through the Pelaajat Nordic Masters - a run that had included an eye-catching overtime victory over MOUZ, but now will be without one of their stars.
Showdown will begin on October 4th and run ‘til the 8th, with BIG, G2, OG, ENCE, 9INE, Movistar, Cloud9 and the aforementioned Victory Zigzag making up the team list.
The winners will qualify for Fall Final in Copenhagen, running from the 22nd to the 26th of November.
