Every big team survived upsets on day two of BLAST Premier Fall Showdown 2024 but we saw one on day three as paiN took out Cloud9 in a clean 2-0.
Elsewhere, OG overcame AMKAL in a great series that involved a 13-0 for them, a welcome end to their day considering they had earlier been knocked out of the Perfect World Shanghai Major RMR Closed Qualifier.
We kicked off the day with paiN upsetting Cloud9 to advance in the competition.
They closed out Nuke with a 13-8 scoreline, but they may have thought things would go differently after kauez suffered an embarrassing fate on round two.
However, the paiN star recovered well from his misfortune and managed to end the map top of the scoreboard with a 16-13 statline.
paiN's fortunes continued after three early rounds from Cloud9 on Mirage, Boombl4 seemed to forget where the bomb was planted as nqz stuck the ten second defuse.
paiN took the lead off the back of that round and extended it further as lux picked up three thanks to some great trigger discipline in Aps.
The Brazilians extended their lead to 10-5 with relative ease, but an ace from Boombl4 kept Cloud9 in the game as paiN tried to take the A site.
The ace mattered for little in the end, however, paiN closed out the series 13-9 thanks to starring performances from lux and kauez.
Mirage started off an even affair with the score tied at 1-1, but FL4MUS was having none of that as he pulled off an incredible 3k to secure GamerLegion a second with time ticking away.
GamerLegion then raced to an 8-1 lead but some precise shooting from JDC managed to secure BIG a second.
8-4 at the half, GamerLegion ended Mirage quickly as they took the map 13-6. aNdu was the star, he picked up 23 kills to top the scoreboard.
Nuke started off with a bang, syrsoN picked up four in the post-plant to secure BIG the first pistol round.
He clutched up again just a few rounds later, saving his team's bacon as FL4MUS almost defused the bomb in the 1v1.
7-5 to GamerLegion at the half, the game was flipped on it's head in the second half as BIG started to mop up the GamerLegion T side.
Krimbo was key to that, he picked up an ace in round 19 to stop his opponents from ever even getting the bomb down.
He was just one tip of the trident, however, as Krimbo, rigoN, and syrsoN all starred in the eventual 13-7 win.
syrsoN almost pulled off another incredible clutch in the opening phases of Dust2, missing sl3nd by a pixel as he attempted a no scopre.
sl3nd proved to be a dominant force in the first half, he ended it 15-4 with the score tied at 6-6.
The Hungarian was powerless in the second half though, BIG have always loved Dust2 and you can see why when JDC was hitting shots like this.
Another disappointing T side for GamerLegion, they failed to pick up a T round as BIG closed out the map 13-6.
We were somewhat terrified for this game given how AMKAL's match against NIP had gone but Buzz showed us in round three that we had nothing to fear.
Krad also came to play, he picked up three to set up forrester for an easy clutch when his team needed it most.
7-5 in favour of AMKAL at the half, they extended their lead to 11-9 but F1KU was on hand on the A site to keep OG in it after Krad hit two nuts shots with his Deagle.
We were sent to not one, but two overtimes off the back of that round and thank God we were, we wouldn't have got to see this shot had we not been.
Or this one - are we sure those guys at r/VACsucks don't have a point?
Those shots weren't enough to give OG the win, however, they fell 19-17 thanks to Krad's incredible 33 kills.
From an incredibly close game to an absolute blowout, OG sat AMKAL down on Vertigo as they pulled off a speedy 13-0 thanks to an impressive CT side.
OG probably shouldn't have pulled it off though, F1KU somehow managed to defuse in the smoke in a 1v2 on round 12.
Still, they kept it clean, and closed it out with a pistol round win thanks to F1KU coming up big yet again.
The game continued to be easy for OG on map three, Buzz even had luck bringing a knife to a gunfight to extend his team's lead to 11-3.
13-6 when all ways said and done, it was a team performance from OG that got them over the line and kept them alive in the Showdown.
