If you spend enough time exploring the Ocean biome in ARK Survival Ascended Genesis 1, you will eventually come across the Tidepup.
At first glance, it looks like a small and harmless creature, but it quickly becomes one of the most useful companions you can have. It heals you, helps your other tames recover, and later evolves into an even stronger form with more abilities.

Where to find Tidepup in ARK Survival Ascended Genesis 1
Image via Studio Wildcard Tidepup is available only if you own the Genesis Ascended Part 1 expansion along with the Tides of Fortune DLC. After that, you can find it throughout the Ocean biome.
These creatures usually spawn near beaches and shallow water, so you do not have to dive deep into the ocean. They are fairly common, making them much easier to locate than many other creatures. A good place to begin your search is around Latitude 69 and Longitude 34.
Although Tidepup is passive and will not attack you, the surrounding wildlife can still be dangerous. Clear the area before starting the taming process to avoid unnecessary trouble.
How to tame Tidepup
Tidepup uses a passive taming method, and the entire process revolves around letting it heal one of your injured tames.
Follow these steps to tame it.
- Bring a tame with you and lower its health to around 10 percent.
- Find a wild Tidepup near the shoreline.
- Move your injured tame close enough for the Tidepup to notice it.
- The Tidepup will walk over and begin healing your creature.
- Once the healing is complete, the Tidepup will fall asleep for a short time.
- Feed it Regular Kibble while it is sleeping.
- Repeat the same process until the taming bar is completely filled.
- Name your new Tidepup once taming is complete.
Keep in mind that Tidepup does not fully heal your tame during each cycle. Since the process takes some time, make sure there are no aggressive creatures nearby that could interrupt the tame or kill your injured companion.
How to evolve Tidepup
After taming, Tidepup automatically starts helping you during your adventures. It heals you whenever your health drops below the threshold you have set, and it also reduces your oxygen consumption while swimming underwater.
Every time it heals you or your tames, it gains Evolution progress. Once that progress reaches 100 percent, you can choose one of two evolution paths.
- Neotenic Stabilization improves its healing abilities and lets you stay underwater for even longer.
- Metamorphosis transforms Tidepup into a large rideable version that requires a Tidepup Saddle.
If you want to evolve it faster, increase its healing threshold to the maximum value. Then light a Campfire and let the fire damage you while Tidepup continuously heals you. Repeating this method fills the Evolution meter much quicker than normal gameplay.
Tidepup abilities
Tidepup is useful long before it evolves, but its larger form unlocks several additional abilities that make it a great support creature.
- Automatically heals you when your health falls below the chosen threshold.
- Reduces oxygen consumption while underwater.
- Bite serves as its basic attack in the larger form.
- Heal Zone restores health to nearby allied tames at the cost of its food.
- Regenerative Stasis prevents your health from dropping below 25 percent for a short time.
- Life Sense lets you see the health of nearby allied creatures.
- Dispel removes negative status effects from friendly creatures.
- Reversal provides continuous healing over a short duration.
