In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you will hit a pretty crucial dialogue moment during the Searching Sakai quest. You will be asked about Imai Sokyu’s family, specifically whether you know his son or daughter.
On the surface, this choice might feel important, but let me tell you upfront: it doesn’t actually change much. It might seem like a big decision, but it all leads to the same outcome in the mission. Let’s dive into what’s going on here.
During the Searching Sakai quest, Naoe’s mission is to track down a woman who shot her—the one she calls The Golden Teppo because of the fancy gilded gun she used.
In this part of the story, Naoe needs to find some gunsmiths in Sakai to get information about the shooter. The whole "son or daughter" thing comes up when Naoe is talking to some bandits who might know Imai Sokyu.
When you’re talking to those bandits, they will ask if you're with Sokyu’s son or daughter. At first, this sounds like a big deal because it might affect your interaction.
But here’s the thing: no matter what you pick, things always end up the same. You still end up in a fight with the bandits and have to chase one down for the counterfeit contracts.

When you get to the point in the conversation where the bandits ask about Sokyu’s son or daughter, you have three options:
So, it really doesn’t matter which option you choose. The result is always the same: violence.
Now, if you’re wondering what the "right" or canon choice is, it’s actually “My name is not important.” This option avoids talking about Sokyu’s family altogether and keeps things neutral.
It doesn't cause any confusion or extra drama. After picking this, the conversation just shifts straight to the extortion attempt, and you’re right where the mission is meant to go.
So, after dealing with the bandits and getting the contracts, Naoe will need to track down Imai Sokyu. You’ll be given a few clues to find him:
If you can’t find him, you can use guided exploration mode. This will give you indicators where you can directly reach him without any use of scouts.
When you meet Sokyu, you will use the fake contracts to convince him you’re trustworthy. He’ll then introduce you to his son, Sokun, who will later take you to his home.
Sokun will ask you for a fake name, so remember which one you picked earlier.
