Counter-Strike can be played individually or in teams and has been in the gaming ecosystem for almost two decades. Undoubtedly, CS is a complex and, for some, an intricate game that demands strategic skill and tactical insight from all players.
However, CS2 is a team game where it is essential to have a good fit in all senses within the servers. In other words, to succeed in a CS2 game, players must have specific roles within each team. In addition, these roles will make each player exploit their full potential and thus be able to win round by round.
One of these very important roles in CS2 is that of Lurker. Although the word lurker can be found in many places with different meanings, the Counter-Strike online community and its active users know perfectly well what we are referring to. Likewise, this article will give us a detailed view of the word lurker or the role of lurk in CS2.
As we have mentioned, roles in Counter-Strike are really important in every game, especially in competitive games, let alone in professional ones. Roles are the specific roles each player will have within a game to contribute to the team's strategy at all times.
These roles can be classified into five classes/roles: Entry Fraggers, Support, AWPer, In-Game Leader (IGL) and Lurker. The vast majority of players tend to be between Entry Fraggers and Lurker. However, the rest are equally important to success in a game.
Each role has unique responsibilities and requires a specific skill set, making the game a perfect blend of individual brilliance and team coordination. As a result, we have a spectacular game where each player contributes to the team's success despite covering different points in the game.
The five roles within CS2 are really important and fundamental in each game since they provide, in addition to structure, a very well-defined strategy for the team. In addition, they also help to ensure that each player has a clear responsibility, i.e., has a place within the team to make the greatest possible contribution to victories. As a result, team members are guaranteed to cover all aspects of the game.
Our first role is the Entry Fragger, one of the most important roles, especially on the T side. This player will be the "cannon fodder" of the team since he is in charge of opening the Sites; that is, he is the one who initiates the battles. As a result, players in this role must be very agile and, above all, have a well-honed aim.
On the other hand, we must also emphasize that this player must be cold-blooded since his actions can determine the game's development.
AWPers are the ones who set the tone in long-range battles. As is obvious, AWPers are in charge of annihilating enemies at long distances with the sniper rifle. Generally, AWPers tend to be each team's best players, as they must have a lot of agility with the AWP and, most importantly, be calm and patient.
A central role that is often underestimated is that of Support. Although the Support does not have the marksmanship of an Entry Fragger or the patience and cold blood of an AWPer, this player serves as a support for his teammates and, in addition, is in charge of using all the utilities. As a result, this player will have to support his teammates with smoke grenades, flashbangs, and motolov.
The IGL (In-Game Leader) is the team's captain in and out of the game. This player acts as a coach within the game since the moves and decisions of what to do go through him first.
This type of player must be very intelligent and, ideally, with competitive experience. We all know the importance of strategies in Counter-Strike.
Finally, the Lurker, the subject of this article, is a player who waits, who is calm, and, of course, has great aim, as he will support his players from the rear when they are in the middle of a battle.
Now then, to the point. The lurker can be one of the most misunderstood roles in Counter-Strike. The player who has this role must always be separated from his team; that is, if the IGL plans a move for A Site in Dust 2, the lurker will go alone in the middle or Lower to wait calmly for the rotation of the rivals.
The lurker must always take alternative routes to the team, occupying places the opponent does not expect them to be during the rotation. On the other hand, it can also distract the enemies by making noise in a certain place or to collect necessary information and flank the enemies. As a result, a lurker is a "silent assassin" who often catches the enemy off guard and creates opportunities for his team to exploit.
Often, lurkers use heavy weapons such as the AK-47 or even an SMG, as let's remember that their mission is to defend themselves alone against one or two enemies. The positioning of the lurkers is of utmost importance, as they can give a lot of information to the IGL so that he can decide what to do in the middle of each round.
To become a good lurker, we must first understand the game, know every corner of the map, and, have an ideal timing and calmness. Many times, lurkers on Twitter tend to be singled out for baiting their teammates. However, as crude as it sounds, this can happen often.
A person who wants to become a good lurker should remember that while you have to play in a group, you must be prepared to be active, wait, and, send accurate messages to your teammates.
As a Lurker, your main job is to create chaos and confusion among the enemy ranks, which requires a high level of game sense and patience. In addition, it is essential to know when to engage the enemy and when to stay hidden, waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack.
Here are some tips for becoming an effective Lurker:
Become the ultimate lurk, and start climbing today!
Undoubtedly, everyone can become a good lurker if they follow the tips we have given in this article. Mastering lurking can be critical to changing your team's game. Moreover, it requires strategic thinking, patience, and excellent game sense.
Likewise, it is also worth noting that other team members can fill this role if needed. Remember that while there are defined roles in a CS2 team, these may also vary according to game situations.
Many members of online communities, active users, and even bulletin boards may mention that this is an easy role to manage. However, this is not the case; not all players have the patience to wait for the right moment, to give the right information, and to lead their team to victory.
