After a grueling qualifying process, the teams for the RMRs are set. As with any region, the RMRs give teams a chance to write their names into the Counter-Strike history books by appearing at a Major. The difference with European RMRs, due to the region's strength, is the level of competitiveness and the fact that any team can see their name in lights by the time the event concludes.
In a group with the two best teams in the world, organizations looking to put difficult spells behind them, and teams looking to bring glory to their nations, the European RMR B looks set to be a fiery affair.
The question remains, which teams can surprise us and book their tickets to the BLAST.tv Major in Paris?
We asked Anders for his selections, so allow us take you through the names he blessed us with.
Hailing from a nation forgotten to the Counter-Strike history books since the decline of the Polish Virtus.pro team, 9INE has been on an upwards trend recently. Since the arrival of AWPer, Olek “hades” Miskiewicz, the team has been blowing opposition out of the water in tier two, finding themselves sitting comfortably in the top 30 on the HLTV team rankings.
hades has been a star since he joined the team, posting numbers consistently far more impressive than he achieved on his previous team, ENCE. Backed up by Kamil “KEi” Pietkun and Kacper “Kylar” Walukiewicz, 9INE is fast becoming one of the most feared tier two teams in CS:GO.
Just like French and Swedish CS, Poland is a region that has been on the backburner for a few years now. With no Polish teams to really shout about, 9INE is set to change all that. European RMR B is a group that even big teams will struggle to get out of. Should a big team fall, don’t be too surprised should it be 9INE that ascends in their place.
Led by veteran IGL Andrey “Jerry” Mekhryakov, FORZE are no strangers to upsetting bigger teams to book themselves a place in the Major. Jerry has consistently managed to build teams greater than the sum of their parts, and this iteration of FORZE is no exception.
Overshadowed by more prominent teams from their region, FORZE isn’t without it’s stars. Both Aleksandr “zorte” Zagodryenko and Alekshandr “shalfey” Marenov are capable of turning games on their head, while Vladislav “Krad” Kravchenko brings a wealth of experience from the backlines.
Playing a brand of CS prototypical to the CIS region, FORZE may not be flashy, but they’re no pushover. European RMR B will be a tough time for them, but with a lucky round of Swiss or two, they could well be in with a chance of making the BLAST.tv Major.
Eternal Fire might be the most underrated team in European RMR B, maybe in all of the RMRs combined. Carried by the one many army that is Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dortkardes, the Turkish team has more than enough ability with him alone to get upset victories and make the Major.
Led by experienced IGL Engin “MAJ3R” Kupeli and supported by reliable second star Bugra “Calyx” Arkin, the core of this team has been in and around the upper echelons of CS:GO for years. While they may never threaten the true tier-one teams, they are a guaranteed threat to those around them. Underestimating Eternal Fire will be those teams’ downfall.
With a core that has been together at various interludes since their bursting on the scene as Space Soldiers, Eternal Fire has the chemistry to go all the way to the Major in Paris.
The EU RMR Group B will start on April 11th. You can watch the games - and catch the latest news here on BLAST.tv.
