After a slow start, NA favourites Team Liquid are now getting back on track as they stay alive in the tournament with a dominant win over compatriots Complexity.
A dominant victory for Liquid, we caught up with Captain America himself, nitr0, after the game to talk about the game and the energy within the team.
That was a big victory for you, how are you feeling?
We’re feeling good considering our last results. Obviously a win at the Major is really important for us and we had super high expectations, we're 2-2 and just taking it match by match. I'm not sure when we will play yet, we're gonna figure out who we play later today and just do the same prep as always but now we have a lot more confidence, we're warming up.
It was two pretty dominant maps, were you expecting that coming into the game?
I was expecting us to win but not in that fashion, I feel we had control on both maps the entire game. It's really nice to have that kind of map in a big tournament, overall I wasn't expecting it to be that clean but I'm happy it was.
Stephanie LindgrenWas that normally how matches between the two teams go during practices, what do you think went wrong for them?
We don't really scrim them as much as people probably think we do since we're both North American, I feel we're in Europe a bit more than them. We scrimmed them two times in the last two weeks or so and they were pretty close scrims, overall it seems like they weren’t playing as confident as I expected. Maybe it's a result of burnout or something. I know they were just in Australia right before the Major, I'm not sure exactly what the problem for them was though, I can't speak on their behalf.
What's the atmosphere in the team like? Everyone seemed quite quiet before but the noise levels seem to be up, oSee especially is getting really loud.
The environment was honestly good, even yesterday in the BO1s it was still good, it's just we're not really playing as well in game as we'd like. Today I feel there was no negativity or anything, it felt really good and smooth. oSee is bringing the hype too, he's doing a really good job too and we're all proud of him.
Stephanie LindgrenIs it really helpful to have someone bringing that hype?
Yeah, I think even back in the day when we had Twistzz on the team he was that player alongside Stewie. The younger players are always the ones doing the yelling, I'm just chilling and focusing on my game but it's nice to have that balance because it hypes up the people around you. It's really good to have that dynamic in the team.
The only way you don't play Grayhound tomorrow is if they beat NIP, in which case you play Monte. How are you feeling about the potential of those two matches?
I'm not really looking too much into it right now, I'm just waiting to see what happens. It would be nice to play Grayhound obviously compared to FaZe, we aren't expecting to play a top five team in the world at this stage yet. We're just waiting to see who we play, then we can go at it.
What's the plan between now and then, are you going to go back and practice?
Yeah we're gonna be in our practice room just doing stuff together as a team, maybe grab some food as well. We're always seeing how we can improve our game.
Do you feel confident that you can carry more momentum forward if you win tomorrow?
The last tournament we had before this was the RMR which feels like it was over a month ago. I feel like we were a bit off when we first started because it's been a while since we played officials. Now I feel like we're getting into our groove and warming up, we're playing a lot better.
