G2 stayed alive last night with a clean 2-0 victory over FURIA, in what was a bizarre-looking 0-2 game.
Few expected G2 or FURIA to be in this position, but bad days happen; fortunately for G2, they woke up.
"The big difference was because we were proactive, as I said, yesterday we were just waiting and holding sites, and not just yesterday" huNter- told BLAST.tv.
"Even in the Challengers Stage we had a lot of issues with our CT side. Today we were better, we were proactive as a team, we were doing things, we were not waiting for them to come to us, we were going on them sometimes. We had a good mix between being passive and being aggressive. It was better."
Aggression was the name of the game for huNter-, who repeated his belief that being "proactive" was "the main reason why [G2] won."
It shouldn't be too shocking, then, that it was FURIA's usual speed that huNter- found lacking.
"I remember before when we played Mirage against them they were in Middle at 1:40, 1:35, today they played really slow and… I don’t know, it was easier to play I would say."
Which is interesting; we've heard a lot about how FURIA are changing style, but huNter- doesn't think it's for the better.
It seems in some ways, he wants the old FURIA back, even tricking himself into thinking it was the old FURIA earlier in the interview.
"It went fast honestly, it’s FURIA. They play so fast and honestly this Inferno went kind of quickly and Mirage was even quicker."
Perhaps, huNter-, it was you who was playing so fast.
"I was reading some interviews that they were changing their game, they were doing something, this and that and then I saw yesterday in two games they won zero rounds on T side and I thought “okay today they might change and go back to old FURIA” because what they were doing yesterday didn’t work, but they just kept doing what they were doing yesterday."
Seems a fair assumption; alas it missed the mark. FURIA continued their slow style, but instead of elevating them to elite status, it softened the edges that make FURIA, FURIA.
huNter- does take from it that even if FURIA weren't good, the way G2 approached the series was superb.
"I think we have some things to fix to be as consistent as we were back in Katowice, but if we play like today - even though FURIA didn’t play good, we played really well today, and that’s why we won that easily."
He didn't, however, think FURIA deserved their fate, and apologised to the Brazilians for having to beat them.
"I’m sorry for them, because they don’t deserve to go 0-3, but we don’t deserve it either. I wish them all the best in the future."
What a gentleman.
