ENCE has looked like an entirely new team since adding NertZ from Endpoint. A top four finish at ESL Pro League Season 17 was a statement of intent from the new roster, and climbing back from 0-2 at the RMR to defeat Cloud9 in the 2-2 bracket only backed that up.
After their opening game versus OG, a demolition of OG on Anubis, we caught up with dycha to speak about the match.
Strong performance from you in the opening map, how are you feeling?
Very good. It's great that I played well but the most important thing is that we performed as a team.
You've had some struggles on Anubis recently, a lot of close games. Is that a map you've worked on a lot?
Yeah, we worked on Anubis a lot and really focused on it. I think the previous games really don't show what we were like on it anyway, so I think we were better than they showed regardless.
One of the four teams trapped in the mini group of death alongside OG, MOUZ, and NIP, ENCE were destined to face another difficult opponent in their 1-0 game.
As it happened, that team would be NIP, and once again the international roster rose to a comfortable victory against the formerly Swedish team.
We got the chance to talk to ENCE’s newest star, Nertz, after that game, getting his thoughts on the team’s strong start to the Major and his future as a tier one star.
You end the day with a 2-0 record, how are you feeling?
We're feeling great. We showed good personality in the game and stayed strong all game, it was good.
Yesterday Snappi told us you can win the Major, do you agree with that statement?
100% I believe that we can win the Major. If we keep playing like that, we have good preparation, it'll be good.
You're still new to tier one, how's the transition been?
I think the gap isn't too big, the skill gap is maybe the difference but some reactions of players is the difference. From time to time I'm getting better with that though.
You've done well so far, has it gone better than you expected?
No actually. I've been playing decent, but I want to play even better. We win even without me exploding though, so I feel great about that. Today has felt insane.
What do you think your peak will be, could you be a top 20 player?
100%. Even if it's not this year, next year I will be there. I believe that.
You play the 2-0 game tomorrow, do you feel confident no matter who you play?
Of course. It could be G2, Apeks, or FaZe, no matter who we play I have good confidence I can do well against these good players and we can win overall.
