Spring Showdowns have come to an end and the eight teams that will compete in Washington D.C are set in stone. Earlier today, Cloud9 took down BIG to win the European Showdown and now Imperial has emerged victorious from the Showdown on the opposite side of the Atlantic after vanquishing fellow Brazilians, paiN
Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo’s squad was far from the favorites to qualify from the Americas Showdown, with the lesser experienced paiN even being favored to win the final. When it came to their opening matchup, Complexity looked to have the upper hand over Imperial, with the veto being identical to their Pro League clash that the North American side was victorious in.
The showdown match was a complete contrast to their EPL clash, with Complexity taking Inferno and Imperial reversing the series by winning Ancient and Overpass.
Evil Geniuses Black awaited Imperial in the next round after their shocking victory over FURIA in their own opening match. Despite being on the second-string lineup for EG, Paytyn "junior" Johnson’s dismantling of FURIA gave reason for Imperial to be concerned. Experience prevailed on the side of the Brazilians, taking the series 2-0 but requiring all thirty rounds to do so on Nuke.
The matchup with paiN was an exciting affair as it was the first time the two Brazilian squads had faced off in nearly half a year. Following their impressive EPL form and their dispatching of MIBR and Liquid in the run to the final, paiN were clear favourites to claim the final Spring Finals spot over Imperial. On the server, recent form was completely irrelevant as Imperial dominated the affair on Inferno and Mirage, with a masterful T-side on the latter map putting an exclamation point on an impressive Imperial run.
Imperial will join G2, FaZe, Heroic, NAVI, Vitality, Astralis, and Cloud9 in Washington D.C for Spring Finals come June 7th!
