“Ever since January we have had one goal, and that was to win today.”
Congratulations, Magisk. You fucking did it.
Team Vitality became the final team to ever lift a CS:GO Major trophy in front of their home crowd.
“I’m feeling amazing. It’s been one hell of a ride.”
Congratulations to dupreeh, ZywOo, Magisk, apEX, Spinx and zonic, and every single French fan who cheered them on - the unofficial seventh man.
They put up a champion's performance on the biggest stage and started a party in the Accor Arena with a dominant showing over GamerLegion.
Not that zonic was 100% happy, mind you.
“It’s not always been perfect, but it’s always been sufficient enough to get us sixteen rounds.”
That's probably why he's a five time Major winner.
We're only playing. He gave plenty of credit to his team.
“I’ve had some great teammates around me - I couldn’t do this with anybody, you also need the team.”
GamerLegion put up a struggle on map two, but there was no fighting destiny.
dupreeh picked up his fifth - his fifth! - Magisk his fourth, zonic his fifth - his fifth! - while Spinx and ZywOo picked up their first.
“I would never in my wildest imaginations have thought that I would go out and..." dupreeh takes a long breath to try and comprehend the gravity of the moment. "...become the name that hopefully I will be remembered for.”
Would the game be destined to continue, it'd likely not be their only one.
Your Major winners, Team Vitality!
Spinx and ZywOo took over the whole map to fire Vitality into a quick 1-0 lead.
The Israeli, emboldened by the overwatch of the sniper, found holes in the GamerLegion default and snuck through to flank, cut down, multi-frag and catch them off guard time and time again, while ZywOo patrolled and cleaned up behind him.
GamerLegion were not helped by the fact Keoz was struggling towards the B side of the map and couldn't find a kill for love nor money, and were forced over and over to head into the meat grinder where Spinx and ZywOo fried them.
GamerLegion did get into a few clutch situations, but couldn't stay calm under the lights to turn that into a more comfortable position.
The CT side was short-lived for them too, as after a crazy four-piece from siuhy, they were immediately reset - and though they reset back, the CT side economy is brutal, and they had no full rifle, full utility rounds before the game ended.
GamerLegion fought back, though.
They flew out of the gate with ten rounds on their CT side, with iM doing what he has done all event and mowed down the entire Vitality offence over and over.
It was summed up by the round he collected three from Squeaky including crab walking out on 10HP.
But Vitality aren't champions because they get put down that easily.
They shut down A rushes consistently, with Spinx and dupreeh seemingly immortal on Hut and Silo respectively, and ZywOo, ubiquitous. Everywhere GamerLegion looked, ZywOo was holding. Everywhere they moved, ZywOo was watching.
When GamerLegion sleep tonight, they will see ZywOo in their dreams. Or perhaps, nightmares.
iM's heroics in the first half were essentially non-existent in the second; sadly for him, he could not get past the immortal ZywOo outside. siuhy had found the key to unlock every other defence, but this lock proved unpickable.
It was ZywOo who stood tallest in the final map, and who will write his name into Major folklore for the first time, with Spinx.
For dupreeh, Magisk and apEX, it's not their first time - but they sure as hell celebrated like it was. Maybe it was the sweetest.
dupreeh becomes the only player to win five Majors. He's done it with eight different teammates, over six years, in nineteen attempts.
"“When I started playing Counter-Strike, I wanted to be a player who won one Major. I wanted to be a player that people recognised, I wanted to make an impact on the game. Yeah, I achieved that."
Dupreeh allows himself a small chuckle. "I think I achieved more than that now.”
He's not only the only player to go to 19, but the only to win five.
“It was a goal I set myself when I joined Vitality, so achieving it and becoming the most decorated player in Counter-Strike history… I can’t complain.”
Vitality scratch their names into the history books, in front of a French crowd.
“It’s something we’re going to remember for the rest of our lives, something we can always be proud of,” a beaming Magisk told BLAST.tv. Too right, man.
If you'd written that story, it might have seemed a bit too perfect.
