The breakout star of RMR A, CYPHER put in a string of impressive performances to catapult Into the Breach into their first Major.
While his first game in Paris might’ve been quiet versus Apeks, against FaZe he was back to his aggressive best and put the hurt to the former Major champions.
After the game we got the chance to speak to a euphoric CYPHER about their famous win and the momentum he hopes it now brings them.
Pardon our French, but you just fucking beat FaZe, how you feeling?
I am fucking over the moon, it is insane, I can't believe it.
What just happened? Can you take us through the game?
I did an interview with someone before the game and I just said, "how we win this game is that we just hit headshots and we run at people" and that's what we did, we ran at people and we hit headshots!
We did an interview earlier and we told you that you would play FaZe, your face went white for a moment, but then you said "we can beat them". Maybe you didn't seem like you believed it then, but what happened between the last game and this one?
I can't say I didn't believe we would win but I remember, I was like "Shit, long day but it's a best of one, and anything can happen" and anything did happen.
Before you guys got here, people were saying you guys would either 0-3, you you'd go 3-1, the one loss is there and now you have a win, how do you think about that?
I mean, I am down for a 3-1 or a 3-2. I'm down.
Are you feeling like now you have momentum that's the most important thing?
Yeah, I think we needed that game to just explode, right? As soon as we had this game, we could just show everyone what we're made of and we just needed confidence. But after the Apeks game, with some of the rounds we were losing, it wasn't possible right?
But now we just know how much better we can be and we just proved it.
You beat Virtus.pro at the RMR, the team that contains the core who won the last Major, is this a bigger win than that? Especially because it's at the Major?
I mean yeah, for sure. To me, there are people in that team who I idolise in CS:GO in terms of their raw mechanics like Twistzz and rain. I always watch their demos and learn how to play from them, right? So beating those players it's just... it's euphoria. That's what it is.
So your game tomorrow, how are you feeling about coming back here?
I don't even know who we're playing, but just get me to bed tonight and let me at them tomorrow.
No drinks to celebrate?
No chance, no way, my throat is gone.
Whoever it is then, same thing tomorrow?
Of course. Business as usual.
