For those of you who have somehow squeezed your way into the CS2 beta, Valve dropped a beaut of an update this week to give you all something new to explore and gawk at.
Seriously, Overpass is gorgeous.
If you have it, then you probably shouldn't be reading this right now. Go and jump in, play some games and pop some heads.
If you're still reading, we'll run down everything that's changed for you pretty quickly.
Vertigo and Overpass were the two new maps added, and one got a bigger update than the other.
Starting small, Vertigo is functionally very similar. All of the angles are exactly what you imagine, so if you weren't a big fan of the map previously, we can't imagine you will now.
It's shinier, brighter and prettier but the map is the same. The changes to it will come from how the smokes react in Source 2 - Vertigo is a map with loads of one way smokes and smoke mini-games, and the way the smokes bloom will change that massively.
The bottom ramp one way smoke now blooms under the ramp, for example. Abusers beware.
Overpass, on the other hand, got a raft of changes.
There's small obstructions that block close corners around toilets, forcing you to play wider. The dice boxes on A judder out, offering - albeit pitiful - cover from onrushing assailants from long. A tiny step allows one to self-boost onto sandbags in short, should one have the cojones to.
Oh, and the aforementioned toilets aren't... toilets any more.
The map feels alive, and part of that is that toilets is now the lounge of a train station, filled wall-to-wall with departure screens and assorted affiliated hardware. The monster graffitis are a little bit too perfect to be actual graffiti; though that might be doing a disservice to your neighbourhood spray can-wielding artist.
One of the big changes is that it's become significantly harder to molotov the exit into fountain for the terrorists, a common default piece of utility that forces them into a catch 22 situation. Take damage and make noise, waste a smoke and make noise, or wait and lose control. All options are bad.
Someone will almost certainly figure out how to do it, but for now the old line-ups fall desperately short.
The cult classic Wingman mode has been added, which is useful as finding four friends with access to CS2 is like finding a six-leaf clover.
For now, though, it's only possible to play Overpass on it, which is often seen as one of the weaker Wingman maps.
