If you read something like “Knife commands”, you might think: “What commands could you do with a knife in CS2?!”
But we are actually talking about console commands that allow you to change your knife to any other kind of knife there is in the game!
Of course, there are a few restrictions; for example, it’s only possible in custom games or offline, and you need to know precisely what command does what.
So, let us tell you more about how you can look at and enjoy any knife in the game.
Customization has always been a large part of Counter-Strike since skins were introduced. Using a weapon that is stylish and fits your own preference has become a huge part of the game.
But it’s not only about the weapons; as you know, the knife plays a big role in CS2, be it as a way to run faster or a quick switch to save a second when reloading; you might not make frags with it, but you use it every round.
That’s why many players want a special knife in their arsenal, but the choices are plenty and they can cost quite a bit!
It’s better to try them out before investing, by using console commands you can check out all of the different knives before you buy them and check their sounds, animations and looks.
Of course those commands are restricted to private servers where you are allowed to use them or offline play, you won’t be able to test the knives in regular Matchmaking.
It’s not possible to test the different skins, though, only the different kinds of knives. Before you can use the console you have to activate it in the settings, also make sure to check where your according keybind is, so you can open it once you’re on the server.
Let’s talk about the different knife commands and how you can get the various knife styles in your hands.
When we are talking about “giving” a knife to someone, it might not make sense at first, as you know it’s impossible to drop a knife in CS2 (even though we will active it on a private server by using “mp_drop_knife_enable 1” in the console). What we mean by that is making it appear on the server.
So, instead of your default knife, you can pick up the knife that you “gave” yourself.
It’s also possible to use the command “give_weapon” to get a certain weapon, but sadly that’s not possible with knives anymore in CS2, it’s a little more complicated to get our hands on the different knife-styles.
To do that, you must use the “mp_drop_knife_enable 1” command, we mentioned above. To make sure the command works the server has to have cheats enabled, if you are the server host or admin you can do so by entering “sv_cheats true” in the console.
Then you drop your knife and walk up to it without picking it up but pointing at it until you see “knife” pop up underneath it. Then you enter one of the following commands in your console (be aware they change occasionally).
First you type “subclass_change” followed by the according number for the knife you want:
We already mentioned some of the biggest parts of why someone might want to use commands to check different knives. Naturally, there are nuances to everything, and there are many different reasons.
Players use the knife commands primarily for the following reasons:
Now you have all the knowledge to try the different knives in CS2, remember the order of all the commands and how to do it:
Once these steps are done, you can proceed to spawn different knives by pointing at the dropped knife and using “subclass_change [X]” where [X] is the number of the knife you want to test.
Have fun with the different knives. Maybe you’ll find the one for you right away.
